Folks, I'm back.
After a week long of stressing out with classwork, I'm finally back, so first things first, I'm going to attempt to announce the results for both Topaz 3 and Topaz 4, then we will release two sets of standings - the overall one, which has seen quite a few changes, mind you, and the one for the current Topaz period, which on paper look probably much different then you would expect.
Once I get results out of the way, I'll work on a few other aspects of the website.
Also, I have opened a photobucket account and have started archiving various results in an image format. For those of you who love numbers and wish to analyze the data we have, this is the perfect place to gather information. We will be archiving other aspects of this league as well, such as past images we have used.
I was able to free up just about only one hour for finishing some of my papers earlier than expected, so I was able to work on the results for Topaz 2. Just an hour though, so that will be the only update you will see.
Change of plans.
We will continue to run the matches as originally scheduled. However, I will still use this weekend to take care of my education. Therefore:
RESULTS FOR TOPAZ 2 AND 3 WILL NOT BE ANNOUNCED UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF TOPAZ 4.
If you haven't read the rules page and you don't understand why this will happen, please at least refer to section VII, subsection D. This will be the first case where I am implementing this rule.
As a freshman in college heading into my sophomore year, I was not sure how much work I would receive at the end of the spring semester. Now that I know that it is much of a workload that could pretty much send me to oblivion if I'm not careful, I have decided to make a few schedule changes so as not to detriment my status quo in my own life.
Therefore, the schedule changes will be as found on the home page.
With this schedule change, I will be able to use the week off to try to straighten out things in my own life to keep my status quo as it is. Research papers and Lab Reports will form the majority of my concentration beginning the conclusion of Topaz 1 and ending on the last day of classes, which is April 29th.
Because of this, you may see very minimal changes to the website itself. The contestants page may or may not be reordered following conclusion of Topaz 1, but that's about as much as you will probably see.
The good news for many of you hardcore voters is that we will most likely go match-heavy for the following weeks before reverting to our 3-match-per-week. This includes a four-day marathon beginning April 30th.
I hate to do this when our participation has suddenly kicked up, but it is the right thing to do. Following this match, we're going to take a week long break before we go hardcore.
I'm working on something new for the remaining periods, so there's a chance we may postpone the Topaz match to 0100 GMT. Let's just say that the current matches will no longer be maintained if this works.
I gotta say, for our first three weeks, we did pretty well, despite the fact that not everything is updated on the website. Here's what's going to be going on in the next few days.
1. First, congratulations to Shana. Right now, a few graphic designers are making a few victory posters for her, so you'll see that around here not before long.
2. Depending on my schedule tomorrow, I may be updating things very very hastily. There are a few completed contestant profiles that I haven't had the time to upload as of yet, but you'll see a few of them soon. I believe I have mostly a free day tomorrow, but that might be hindered due to loads of homework.
3. The Topaz Schedule has been updated. On Monday, the Aquamarine page will be finalized and you will see the results. I am also uploading past results to a photobucket account so the results can be saved.
4. I finally got the banlist working, so those who have been cracking my nerves lately are now banned from the voting site. If you cannot access it, contact immediately with your IP address. If the IP address matches the ones on the banlist, then I will notify you and you must send me either a valid reason or an essay justifying why you were marked... or something like that. I will e-mail you the details of what you need to do.
5. I am considering changing a few things in the rules page concerning pre-qualifiers, but I will not update the rules page with these changes until something drastic happens that forces me to change the rules page.
6. I'm still looking for that Japanese translator. That's the country I've been trying to get to participate. Other than that, I also plan to have a final standings spreadsheet file on the net. Not only will it include the final Aquamarine standings, but it will also present a pie chart of the current demography. The one that is up right now is basically incorrect due to the increased participation from South Korea. (Now you know why four of the six that were eligible for the Aquamarine Necklace were from Korea Super Best Moe)
7. Speaking of which, I am always looking for help to run this website. If you think you can help, even if you don't know what you can do, send me an e-mail through the contact form, and I will give you an assignment.
8. Lastly keep spreading the word of the International Saimoe League. While I continue to do my part, continue to vote and keep getting more voters. Many of us are seeing great things for this league, and I believe this league will continue to grow for a long time.
Due to technical difficulties, we may have problems uploading images for this match. I'll see to it that the Weebly administration fixes their problems.
In the meantime, the Aquamarine poster, which I bent the rules to link from Photobucket, was made by qtipbrit92, who took up the offer of devising a poster only minutes after finding out who was still eligible for the Aquamarine Necklace.
Maria's biography is now up on the contestants page. We plan to have Tomoyo's up as well, but due to the image uploading problems, we may have to hold up on a few developments.
How long has it been since I posted an entry here?
Anyway, I won't be around much, so the website development will continue to be slow for the moment. College work has become sort of a focus for me now a days, but with the semester ending around the same time frame as the Topaz period, we should be alright heading into September.
I'll address a few issues while I'm here.
1. VOTE IN 4 ARENAS OR YOUR VOTE WILL BE DISCOUNTED. A majority of illegal votes from the past few matches were because of this new rule. The reason I implemented this rule is for those of you to participate and actually choose which girl is more moe. I understand that some of you have not watched a number of anime that these girls represent, but that's why we are making contestant profiles in the first place - you should get a general impression and hopefully check out the series yourselves. I'm going to start drilling this in voters heads from now on should this rule continue to be broken.
2. On a lighter note, I finally decided on a banner and logo. The Logo was selected during Aquamarine 5 - the winner here was cicido, who had a logo that I ended up liking a lot. I haven't selected a banner though only because none were close to what I envisioned. The day afterwards, I got an e-mail from AnimeSuki's Marina, and he sent in two banners that hit right on the mark. While these banners are being improved, we decided it is best to feature one of them now. You can find the winning banners and logo here.
3. We now have a Spanish Translator. We welcome DarkEdgar on board to take part with our project. He will be translating selected pages to Spanish for the time being.
Finally, there have been a few updates to the website as of now, so I suggest you keep looking around - there may be a few profiles added at this moment.
I'm sorry guys.
Apparently, I've been scrambling my school work and the rest of my life with this. Life for me has gotten hectic lately, preparations for the new semester, housing applications, class registration, etc., along with a youth group, music class, and family reunions to boot.
Therefore, I was ecstatic that we went through a match flawlessly last Tuesday. Or so I thought.
Saber being crused by Sakura? The other Sakura taking down Suiseiseki? That was a lie.
It just so happens that I have just found an HTML coding error that severely affected the results of Aquamarine 4. What happens is that each match has a certain variable that receives data, and data is then transfered to a particular vote counter that takes care of the results and tallies them. For example, Arena 7's variable is "ARENA_07", where Rika and Tsukasa is now, and each vote adds 1 to the counter we have, which I will not reveal for the safety of the poll script.
What happened in Aquamarine 4's HTML code was this:
Arena 7 = "ARENA_07"
Arena 8 = "ARENA_11"
Arena 9 = "ARENA_08"
Arena 10 = "ARENA_09"
Arena 11 = "ARENA_10"
Arena 12 = "ARENA_12"
As HTML treats each variable as a variable and does not check on the accuracy of each arena, there was no technical error, and this logical error, possibly due to some cut and pasting I have done, has gone undetected until tonight, when I was preparing the HTML form for Aquamarine 6. (This means that Aquamarine 5 is also affected, but I can switch the results safely without harm.)
As a result, some of the results have been mixed up - which means all winners in the arenas affected actually lost, and vice versa.
Therefore, I have decided to play fair and admit I was wrong. The results have been reversed accordingly, and all secondary effects will be reversed prior to the conclusion of Aquamarine 5, which is tonight.
Once again, I apologize for my personal screw-up.
However, let me remind you that at any time, you can use the contact form or the forums to cry foul on some results. I will be able to double check all aspects of the arena in question and should a mistake be found, I will reverse them. However, do note that should I not find mistakes for the previous match set after the current match set closes, I will not check unless I stumble upon it by accident.
P.S. On a lighter note, Yuki's profile has been added.
Alright, pretty much all I can muster up right now is the main page and the rules page. I'll see if I can get a few things up tomorrow.
The standings will not be updated until Friday at the earliest, due to the Konoka vs. Tsuruya matchup. However, I will be updating the standings on my own and assign rankings accordingly. For those of you who wish to follow along, simply input the number of votes into the Splendid City Scheduler.
